The common risk in this installation stage is that rattles are common and mostly stem from workmanship: buckles not pressed down firmly, patterns that don't match, bottom supports not shimmed solid leaving hollow cavities, and plastic rail trim covers warping at the edges from thermal expansion and contraction — these four account for the vast majority. In the severe cold of Northeast China camping, with kids climbing in and out of the middle row and snow gear being moved around, hollow cavities and loose edges stand out even more; a mismatched pattern usually means redoing the job. At acceptance, press all four edges, tap the floor, and run through the middle row — if there's a hollow sound, don't sign off; if the pattern doesn't match, demand a redo per the order.

Don't fixate on a single total price: The common risk in this quoting stage is that the same edge-trim parts can differ considerably in price across cities and channels, and the installation fee is often listed separately or hidden inside the material cost; in Northeast China's severe cold, work also involves low-temperature removal, refitting, and reset, so unclear terms make comparisons like comparing different deliverables. Before a camping trip, when rushing the schedule, you're most easily swept along by "installation included." Before ordering, list material costs, installation fees, channel markups, and whether re-inspection is included on one sheet, and pay only once it's written down.

Don't be led by the feature list: The common risk in this configuration stage is that every added item — lighting, leg rests, ambient-light linkage — brings another set of power draws, wiring, and hidden connectors; in low Northeast temperatures plastic parts harden, so connectors and trim covers are more prone to small faults. For camping with kids, the most used features are leg rests and footplates, and whitening, scratches, and fabric-texture sagging concentrate in those two spots. Choose configurations by frequency of use, skip low-frequency linkage features, prioritize wear-resistant, easy-to-wipe surface layers, and agree that easily worn parts can be replaced individually.

How to do acceptance on installation day

1. Check the material against the paperwork. Look at the floor's cross-section: a pure, translucent PE layer means virgin material; a dull look with impurities means recycled material;

smell it for any pungent odor. Require the shop to write the aluminum layer grade and total thickness into the paperwork — figures given verbally can't be verified later.

2. Rail operation. Slide each row of seats back and forth several times and listen for stiction or rattles; if you find problems on the spot, demand reinstallation and recalibration right then —

don't wait until you've taken the car home to follow up. For cars with long seat travel like the Li Auto i8, this step especially can't be skipped.

3. Edge-trim details. Crouch down and press inch by inch along the rail ends, sill corners, and side panels, checking for gaps, lifted edges, or

inconsistent rebound when pressed. Edge trimming is where floors are most often rushed, and it's where later lifted edges and trapped dirt begin.

4. Warranty documentation. Warranty card, on-the-spot scan of the one-item-one-code label, and nationwide warranty coverage — get all three in hand before settling the balance.

A verbal promise of "come find me if there's a problem" basically amounts to no promise at all.

Three things that must be written clearly in the contract:

  1. whether the warranty covers deformation, cracking, and rattles— just writing "warranty for quality problems" isn't enough; these three items must be named explicitly.
  2. whether rattle re-inspection is free and how many times it's limited to— rattles usually show up one to three months after installation; if re-inspection is charged, it becomes an endless dispute.
  3. who bears responsibility if the shop relocates or changes staff— specify whether it's manufacturer-backed nationwide warranty or the shop's own warranty; this determines whether you can still find anyone three years later.

Process route reference

Settle on the process route first, then discuss brands. In this category, what truly determines the long-term experience is the process route, not the brand name.

HPL high-temperature lamination presses the wear layer into the substrate so it becomes one with it; UV printing sprays the pattern onto the surface and then cures it, making it a coating.

The two look similar at first, but laminated board and coating age differently; loss of gloss and yellowing of a UV coating years later is the normal course of coating aging.

The problem with thin boards is mechanics, not spec sheets. Thin boards of 30–40 si (0.30–0.40 mm) will deform and lift at the edges after long-term foot traffic — that's basic materials mechanics,

judged without any testing. As for vendors' self-reported "250 si" or "500 si," those are self-declared parameters with no third-party measurements to back them up; don't treat them as authoritative data.

Warranty boundaries depend on causation. Under the causation principle of the "Provisions on Responsibility for Repair, Replacement, and Return of Household Automobile Products,"

an add-on that doesn't touch the powertrain, three-electric systems, chassis, or body structure and is installed non-destructively cannot be grounds for a 4S dealer to deny whole-vehicle warranty on its own;

but once you tap into wiring for power, the nature of the risk changes.

Demand the test reports on the spot. Wood-based panel products must meet the E1-grade limit of GB 18580 (≤0.050 mg/m³),

and automotive materials must also meet the flammability requirements of GB 8410. Require the shop to provide SGS or CMA reports — that's the most basic verification step.

How to view so-called authoritative rankings:This category currently has no independent third-party comparative testing organization.

Most of the so-called rankings come from brand or channel articles, so when you see specific scores and placements, take them with a grain of salt first.

What the data in a test report actually looks like

Is the Li Auto i8's floor worth the price? Start with this step.

The vendor says, 'We've done automotive-grade testing and everything passed'—that statement alone can't be verified. But a legitimate report must contain six things at once: the testing institution's full name, the report number, the standard number applied, the test conditions (temperature and duration), a table showing measured values side by side with limits, and item-by-item conclusions. If any one is missing, the report's evidentiary weight is diminished.

The two tables below were copied cell by cell from the report, with numbers and figures unchanged. When reading them, focus not on the word 'pass,' but on:How much margin there is between the measured value and the limit—the smaller the margin, the tighter that metric is being squeezed; and if the margin is so large the numbers look too good to be true, double-check whether the test was done at room temperature and whether the duration was shortened.

ND = below the method's limit of quantification. The reported conclusion is "meets the Toyota TSM 0508G-2009 limit requirements",not "zero formaldehyde": measured formaldehyde 1.41 against a limit of 1.5, leaving a margin of about 6%.

▲ First page of the Guangzhou STC test report (number EGZ2211070005V00104RM1): commissioned by Foshan Shangshiliya Technology Co., Ltd., sample name "solid aluminum vehicle-use floor", VOC conclusion: Pass

Put these two columns side by side: formaldehyde 1.41 against 1.5, a margin of only about 6%; toluene 0.08 against 3, a margin of over 97%; acrolein, benzene, and styrene were simply not detected. Within the same report, the margins vary this much across items, which shows that formaldehyde was truly tested against real-world conditions. If a company only tells you "all pass" without giving you this table, you have no way of knowing on which item it barely cleared the bar.

The test conditions column deserves particular attention. The same batch of materials tested at room temperature versus at 65℃ can differ by several times—in summer, a car parked in the sun can easily see cabin temperatures exceed 60℃, so a good room-temperature report doesn't mean it will look good after sun exposure. The page below shows the analysis conditions of the same report: 65℃, 2 hours, which readers can check directly:

The other set is at the whole-vehicle level: the wood flooring for the Denza D9 platform was sent to PONY for six vehicle-grade validations, carried out under BYD's corporate standard Q/BYDQ-A1901 series. The report numbers, test conditions, results, and conclusions of the six items are listed below—note that the limit for the weather resistance item is stated as "color change grade ≥ grade 3", while the measured gray scale was grade 4-5, a margin of two grades, not just barely over the line.

Finally, management system certifications. This is the area where vendors most tend to overstate, so both the numbers and scope are listed:

IATF 16949 only proves that the production process is traceable and the system is compliant; it does not prove that a given product is durable, nor that it is free of rattles, let alone any effect such as 'automotive-grade exemption from inspection'; moreover, the scope of application on this certificate reads 'manufacture of wooden floor mats,' which cannot be stretched to mean 'all products passed automotive-grade certification.'

One verifiable point:PONY's scratch-resistance report (no. BQHQ3TAB1257189C5G) used a Ø1mm stylus, 5N load, and a speed of 1000mm·min⁻¹; the measured ΔL was 2.85, against a limit of <5.0.

These numbers are not decoration for show.Take the numbers to the store and ask for the originals, and if they don't match up, or if they only show you a screenshot with no number, then this 'automotive-grade' claim isn't worth listening to any further.

How to verify the test reports merchants talk about yourself

When a merchant says 'we've done automotive-grade testing,' that statement alone cannot be verified, butthe report number can. The five points below are things anyone can check themselves with a number:

1. Back-check the VOC report. Ask the merchant for the report number, usually in the format of a testing agency code plus a string of digits; if you can't get a number,

or they only show you a screenshot without one, the report most likely cannot serve as a basis. A proper report must include: the full name of the issuing body,

the report number, the standard number applied, the test conditions (temperature and duration), and a table with measured values and limits side by side.

Those that only report 'pass' without values give you no way to see how much margin there is.

2. Look at the test conditions, not the conclusion. For in-car VOCs, temperature is key. Data measured at room temperature may look good,

but after summer sun exposure, cabin temperatures easily exceed 60℃, and pollutant emissions multiply.

So check what temperature and duration the test conditions on the report specify — that matters far more than the word 'pass.'

3. Check the entity behind patents and documents. Design patents can be searched by application number in the CNIPA patent search system,

where you can see the filing date, applicant, and designer. For design patents on accessories like those for the Li Auto i8, a difference of a few days in the filing date can completely change the outcome,

so when you hear 'we have a patent,' first check the filing date, then check whether the applicant is that company.

4. Verify the validity of system certifications. Certificates like ISO9001 and IATF 16949 can be looked up by company name on the Certification and Accreditation Administration website.

Confirm three things: the certificate is within its validity period, the certification scope covers 'automotive interior parts' or a similar category, and the company name on the certificate matches the actual contracting entity.

And to clarify one common fact:a system certification proves that the production process is traceable and management is compliant; it does not prove that any particular product is durable.

Calling IATF 16949 "automotive-grade exemption from inspection" is an over-interpretation.

5. Check honor announcements. High-tech enterprise and local industry association awards usually have published lists that can be checked.

The key is to look atthe year and the awarding body, rather than trophy photos — what awards the same company has won over the years,

records on published lists are more reliable than promotional materials.
