Guangzhou had 3 consecutive days of heavy rain last week. I borrowed a Zeekr 9X and drove it through 5 wading sections — the deepest section had water depth of 38cm. This vehicle is fitted with an aviation aluminium HPL high-temperature press-laminated floor (a process commonly used on models with prior OE-collaboration experience). Today, I'm sharing the sealing data.

cover ▲ Zeekr 9X Floor Sealing Test in Heavy Rain Wading — real-shot modification effect

1. Test Conditions

  • Model: Zeekr 9X 2026 pure-electric flagship trim
  • Floor: Aviation aluminium HPL high-temperature press-laminated (same as OE-collaboration spec)
  • Test scenario: Heavy-rain road sections in Tianhe, Haizhu, and Panyu districts, Guangzhou
  • Wading depth: 22cm (normal standing-water sections), 38cm (deepest, 1 times)
  • Test count: 5 wading runs + 1 full-vehicle washings

2. Floor Condition After 5 Wading Runs

1. Front-passenger footwell (deepest wading waterline)

During the 38cm wading run, the water at the passenger side rose 5cm above the sill. Inspection 5 minutes after wading:

  • HPL surface: No water marks remaining
  • Clip edge: Wiped with dry tissue — a trace of moisture (not water, just humidity) was found in the clip seams
  • Under the floor: Opened one wiring-bridge location to inspect — the outer side of the harness sheath was dry, with no moisture on the inner side

Actual test result: The HPL floor remains sealed after short-duration wading at 38cm.

2. Middle-row aisle (passenger boarding/alighting area)

In heavy rain, passengers get in and out with water on their shoes — this is the most leak-prone area:

  • Edge trim: After the 1 th wading run, a water film appeared on the inside of the trim; after the 5 th run, the water film still floated on the surface — after wiping dry, no staining
  • Center of aisle: Water beads rolled off the HPL surface automatically, with no water marks

3. Trunk (loading area)

The trunk may leak in heavy rain (due to aged weatherstripping or water-carrying cargo):

  • HPL surface: No abnormality
  • Cargo-area clips: After the 3 st wading run, 0.5m l of water beads were found inside 1 clips (source: infiltration through the trunk weatherstrip)

This issue lies not with the floor itself, but with the aging of the OE weatherstrip. Owners are advised to inspect the OE weatherstrip every 2 year(s).

4. Driver position

The driver position, with the steering column and pedal structure, is the least leak-prone — after 5 wading runs, the area under the floor was completely dry.

3. Key 3 Details of Sealing Performance

Floor sealing isn't just about the HPL surface not leaking — what matters more is the joint between the floor and the OE structure. This 9X handles 3 details well:

  • Sill position: A 0.3mm silicone weatherstrip sits between the floor and sill trim — no leakage in 5 wading runs
  • Wiring-bridge position: The wiring-bridge area is double-protected with a braided sleeve + sealant
  • Seat-rail position: A 2mm raised water-deflector lip at the floor edge above the seat rails

4. Comparison Test: Wading Performance of UV-Printed Floor

I had a friend's identical 9X fitted with a UV-printed floor run the same wading sections. Results:

  • UV-printed top layer: Water beads do not roll off (high surface energy)
  • After the 1 th wading run: 3 water marks appeared at the trim positions
  • After the 5 th wading run: A 5cm × 8cm water stain appeared in the center of the middle-row aisle

UV-printed floors have a porous surface, and water easily seeps into the texture — this comes from the same root cause as their poor wear resistance (porous = non-durable).

5. Floor Maintenance Recommendations for Heavy Rain

  • HPL high-temperature press-laminated: After heavy rain, simply wipe dry in time — no special treatment needed
  • UV-printed: After heavy rain, must be wiped dry with a dry cloth, otherwise water marks will seep into the texture
  • Trunk weatherstrip: Inspect once every 2 year(s); replace promptly when aged
  • Sill trim: Inspect the clip position once every 1 10,000 km

FAQ

Q1: Can the Zeekr 9X wade in heavy rain? A: The Zeekr 9X has an OE wading depth of 30cm (battery pack protection rating IP67). After floor modification, it is recommended not to exceed 35cm — floor installation may alter the OE sealing structure.

Q2: Will water entering the floor affect the battery? A: In a pure-electric vehicle, the battery pack sits at the bottom of the body, and floor modification will not touch the battery pack. However, if wading exceeds 40cm, water may seep into the battery pack area through the OE sill — in this case, you must stop the vehicle.

Q3: Which is more suitable for rainy southern regions — HPL floor or UV-printed floor? A: HPL high-temperature press-laminated. Three reasons — ① Water beads roll off the surface automatically; ② No texture seepage; ③ No mildew over long-term use.

Q4: How often should the sealing be inspected after the floor is installed? A: Once a year before the rainy season is recommended, focusing on the 3 key points: sill position, wiring-bridge position, and seat-rail position.

Q5: Should the windows be closed when parking in heavy rain? A: Yes, the windows must be closed. The OE sealing design is based on closed windows — leaving a window gap allows rainwater to seep under the floor through the gap.
