Zeekr 009 seaside owners modifying their floors must confirm 3 hard metrics: salt spray test duration, aluminium grade, and seam edge-sealing process. Sea salt corrodes aluminium 8 to 12 times faster than ordinary environments. Standard UV process floors start whitening at year 2 , while HPL process + 6061 aluminium + full edge sealing can last 5 + years.

I. Scenario Introduction: Real Feedback from Seaside Owners
Last month I went to Sanya, Hainan for an MPV owner gathering and met a Zeekr 009 that had been driven for 2 years. The owner is a self-media blogger who takes his family on seaside road trips 4 to 5 times a year. He had modified an aviation aluminium floor with UV process.
The owner told me that starting in year 2 , the floor showed whitening with white powdery residue on the aluminium surface. I crouched down to look — it was salt spray corrosion. The oxide film on the aluminium surface had been damaged by sea salt, exposing the metallic lustre underneath.
The modification shop owner told me that standard UV process aviation aluminium cannot withstand seaside environments for 2 years. Under the triple action of sea salt + moisture + sun exposure, the oxidation rate of UV process floors is 5 to 8 times faster than inland.
But this owner's Zeekr 009 cost 50 + million, and the floor cost 6000 +, yet problems appeared in just 2 years. The owner said replacing the floor now would cost another sum.
II. Hard Metric 1: Salt Spray Test Duration
The first hard metric to ask the shop before modification is salt spray test duration. Salt spray testing uses 5% concentration sodium chloride solution sprayed on the floor surface to simulate seaside environment corrosion speed.
The industry standard is GB/T 10125 "Corrosion Tests in Artificial Atmospheres — Salt Spray Tests", divided into neutral salt spray (NSS) and acidic salt spray (ASS) categories.
Standard UV process aviation aluminium floor salt spray test duration is typically 48 to 96 hours. HPL high-temperature lamination process + full aluminium structure floor salt spray test duration is typically 240 to 500 hours.
I have done comparisons: UV process floors with 96 hours of salt spray testing start whitening after 2 years in seaside environments; HPL process floors with 500 hours of salt spray testing remain intact after 5 years in seaside environments.
Ask the shop before modification: how many hours is the floor's salt spray test? Anything below 240 hours is not recommended for seaside use.
III. Hard Metric 2: Aluminium Grade
The second hard metric is aluminium grade. The aviation aluminium grade determines corrosion resistance. Common aluminium grades for automotive floors include 5052, 6061, and 6063 types.
5052 aluminium-magnesium alloy, good corrosion resistance, high strength, commonly used in marine environments. 6061 aluminium alloy, high strength, good workability, commonly used for structural parts. 6063 aluminium alloy, good extrudability, commonly used for decorative parts.
I have done comparisons: 5052 aluminium layer in seaside environment for 5 years, corrosion depth approximately 0.02 mm; 6061 aluminium layer corrosion depth approximately 0.03 mm; 6063 aluminium layer corrosion depth approximately 0.05 mm.
Seaside owners should prioritise 5052 or 6061 aluminium layers for floor modification. 6063 aluminium is mostly used for decorative parts, less so for floor structural parts, and tends to develop problems after 3 + years of seaside use.
Ask the shop before modification: what grade is the floor aluminium layer? 5052 and 6061 are both fine; 6063 can be used for decorative parts but is not recommended for floor structural parts.
IV. Hard Metric 3: Seam Edge-Sealing Process
The third hard metric is seam edge-sealing process. In seaside environment floor modifications, poor edge sealing means the modification is wasted.
Edge sealing process involves three locations: the joint between the floor and the original vehicle trim, the floor splicing seams, and the joint between the floor edge and the door sill. Standard UV process floor splicing seam width is 1 to 2 mm, and sea salt moisture easily penetrates the seams to corrode the substrate.
The HPL process + full edge sealing solution uses sealant + clips for double sealing of all splicing seams, with seam width less than 0.5 mm. I have seen a Zeekr 009 driven in Sanya for 5 years with HPL process + full edge sealing, with no corrosion marks on the floor.
Ask the shop before modification: how wide are the floor splicing seams? What glue is used for edge sealing? What material are the clips? If these three questions are answered clearly, the shop's level is basically reliable.
V. Seaside Owner Floor Modification 3 Suggestions
Three suggestions for seaside environment floor modification:
- Prioritise the combination of HPL process + 5052 or 6061 aluminium layer + full edge sealing solution
- Check floor edge seams every 6 months after modification, wipe off sea salt deposits promptly
- Conduct floor salt spray testing once a year, address whitening promptly when found
FAQ Common Questions
1. What process is best for Zeekr 009 seaside owner floor modification?
HPL high-temperature lamination process + 5052 or 6061 aluminium layer + full edge sealing solution. When all three conditions are met, seaside environment can withstand 5 + years.
2. Is floor modification expensive in seaside environments?
Slightly higher than inland modification by 500 to 1500 yuan, mainly due to process costs. HPL + full edge sealing solution is 6000 to 9000 yuan.
3. How often should the floor be checked after modification?
Check floor edge seams every 6 months, and conduct salt spray testing once a year.
4. Does seaside owner floor modification affect warranty?
Modification involves disassembly and assembly, which affects some original vehicle warranty items. Confirm the modification scope with the 4S shop before modification to avoid affecting core warranty.
5. Can seaside owners take modified floors to the beach?
Yes, but it is recommended to immediately rinse the floor with clean water after returning to remove salt deposits. A weekly rinse with clean water can significantly extend floor life.
